What's Your Name?

Have you ever been friends with someone and then realized you don't know their name? That's most likely because your afraid to ask the awkward question, "what's your name?" I find myself in this situation a lot. But thats just because when I first meet someone I tend to get to know them before learning their name. Later when I want to get their attention by calling their name I realize I don't know it. I feel weird shouting "hey you!" So I just tap them on their shoulder and they end up turning around saying something along the lines of "hey man" or "what's up." After I walk away from the conversation I realize that they probably don't know my name either. And even if that's the case I still feel weird asking one of my friends what their name is. So eventually I get one of our mutual friends to tell me their name and then I use it when talking to them to make me sound like I knew it all along. If your reading this your probably thinking that if they are my friend we should know each others names. But I think the majority of people find themselves in this situation at least once in their lives. I wanted to share this story because it's one of those times where I do something mildly stupid and feel the need to laugh at myself.

Project Overload!!

Ugh! I have three projects to do this weekend. The first is for a birthday present. The second and third are for school. They are all very elaborate because of my need to clear the shelves at A.C. Moore (local craft store). I also pounce on any oportunity to be creative. So that leaves me with a very busy weekend and a hot glue gun that is always at the ready and plugged in. I'm taking a short break before starting on my third and I'm 100% tired. I don't know if any of you have been in this situation before but putting a lot on your plate, even with something you love doing, is exhausting. I want so badly to go to bed but I also want to get as much done as possible to free up tomarrow so I can sleep in really late. This is a project weekend I will never forget.

Stereotypes

A stereotype is an idea or assumption about a certain group of people with a common trait. It is an assumption that is made about someone before knowing them. I think the best advice I can give when it comes to stereotypes is that you shouldn't believe any of them and you shouldn't change yourself to be one.

Charlie Horse!!

I got a Charlie horse sometime between eight and nine tonight. It felt like one of those metal clamp things in a wood shop squeezed my calf as tight as possible. I think it's called a metal vice. I wanted to scream! Eventually I was able to force myself to straighten my leg. As I slowly extended my leg I could feel the muscle gradually becoming released from the grasp of the metal clamp. It's getting better but is still kinda sore. So I decided to look up information about Charlie horses online and this is what I found:

----------

Charley horse
A charley horse is the common name for a muscle spasm, especially in the leg. Muscle spasms can occur in any muscle in the body. When a muscle is in spasm, it contracts without your control and does not relax.

Causes
Muscle spasms often occur when a muscle is overused or injured. Working out when you haven't had enough fluids (you're dehydrated) or when you have low levels of minerals such as potassium or calcium can also make you more likely to have muscle spasms.

Some spasms occur because the nerve that connects to a muscle is irritated. The classic example is a herniated disk irritating spinal nerves as they exit the back, causing pain and spasm.

Spasms in the calf often occur while kicking during swimming, and can also occur at night while you're in bed. Upper leg spasms are more common with running or jumping activities. Spasm in the neck (cervical spine) can be a sign of stress.

Symptoms
When a muscle goes into spasm it feels very tight and is sometimes described as a knot. The pain can be severe.

Exams and Tests
Your health care provider can diagnose muscle spasms by the presence of tight or hard muscles that are very tender to the touch. There are no imaging studies or blood tests that can diagnose this condition. If the spasm is caused by nerve irritation, such as in the back, an MRI may be helpful to find the cause of the irritation.

Treatment
At the first sign of a muscle spasm, stop your activity and try stretching and massaging the affected muscle. Heat will relax the muscle at first, although ice may be helpful after the first spasm and when the pain has improved. If the muscle is still sore, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications can help with pain. In more severe cases, your health care provider can prescribe antispasm medications.

After you get treated, your health care provider should look for the cause of the spasm so that it doesn't recur. If an irritated nerve is involved, you might need physical therapy or even surgery.

The most common cause of muscle cramps during sports activity is dehydration. Often, drinking water or sports drinks will ease the cramping. However, drinking water alone at times is not sufficient. Salt tablets or sports drinks that can replenish loss minerals can be helpful.

I was also hoping to find some old wise tales about charlie horses but I couldn't find any. If you know of any feel free to share them.

Candy Stop Motion

It took 405 pictures, two days, and a lot of candy to make. In photography class we each had a partner and got to make a stop motion. My friend Sierra and I decided to use candy with ours. The chocolate bar was 1 pound of solid chocolate. The whole time was a fight within ourselves to not eat the chocolate. Especially because the smell was tempting us the whole time. We did the first part thinking we were done. So you can imagine how much longer that chocolate lasted. But our teacher wanted more added to it. Well, we had already eatin the chocolate bar so me and my dad had to go get another one after school that day. While at the store I saw all the different types of candy and got an idea. Why don't we spell candy with candy? The only candy that didn't come from the store was the candy leggos. I got those in a store called It's Sugar in Baltimore. After it was all finished we sat in the lobby of our school and ate the candy for the remander of the class. When one of our friends would pass by they would stop and help use make the candy dissapear. I don't know what was more fun, making it or eating it. I hope it looks as good as it tasted.

Being Embarrassed

Have you ever been embarrassed? Because I'm pretty sure everyone at one time has been embarrassed in some way. Sometimes you end up embarrassing yourself. Other times you get embarrassed by something someone else did. Either way you end up feeling the same way. One time I was walking down the stairs at school and slipped and fell. It was a really crowded stair way too. I felt so bad at the time. Now I just look back and laugh at how stupid I probably looked. Embarrassing moments are always funnier a couple weeks after they happened. I would love to here some of your embarrassing stories that you now laugh at. Comment on this post to share them and make everyone that reads it laugh.

A Nightmare Turns Into a Dream

The luminescent clould that I stand on starts to get heavy, losing it glow. The night sky towers above me as if its challenging my existance. I fall slowly to the ground. Next thing I know I'm plummeting down to earth. All my fears combine to one long horror movie that was made just for my own personal veiwing. The wind sourrounding me is no longer queit and tranquil. It moves fast and loud while it trys to knock me over. While choking on darkness I do my best to hold onto the falling cloud and pull it back up. But I'm decending just as fast. Fear rips the cloud to shreds. All I'm left with is a meak little cotton ball too small for me to stand on. The ground is aproaching rapidly. I can see every crack and stone on the dry and barren feild of dirt. I close my eyes and ready for the impact. But it never happens. I open my eyes and the cloud is growing. Rising. Lighting up the sky. The overwhelming night transforms into a miraculous day. As I rise from the ground I look down to see a feild of grass stretched out like a blanket on the earth. Flowers make their way to the surface and race each other to bloom. There are too many colors amung the populated ground to name. Blues and reds mix with the intertwining greens and yellows. Pinks and purples make themselves noticed in every direction. The higher the cloud takes me the more of the various flowers I can see. Daisys, roses, tulips, pansies, impatients, along with some I don't even recognize. Soon the ground is too far away to see so and I decide to look around me. As far as the eye can see birds with magnificent feathers dance in the sky. Their wings move so gracefuly and guide them effortlessly through the open blue. I gaze in amazement as the most exotic birds I've ever seen put on a display of color. It apears as if I was the only one meant to see their fantastic air show. I rise higher while watching the florescent birds do a farewell nod with their bright orange beaks. I look up to see myself aproaching more clouds. They are whiter than a fresh snow fall on a cold december morning. No teddy bear in the world could look soft enough to even be compared to these floating pillows that I see before me. These clouds are more stunning then any sunset I've ever witnessed. Light finds its way through these clouds in a way that makes them look awe inspiring.

I wasn't sure on how to end it but let me know what you think.

Basement Movie Marathons

Don't you just love sitting in your basement and getting extremely comfortable while watching movies nonstop. And I mean lying down while using every pillow in the house to get comfy. I always turn the light off because it makes it like a movie theater. I usually do this right after school if I have no homework and no plans for the rest of the day. I love it.
